Position Summary
The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons is accepting applications for a Technician B. This position will support the basic and translational research in the area of cardiovascular medicine. The Technician B will work closely with the principal investigator, surgeons and researchers on projects focusing on heart valve physiology, cardiovascular tissue biomechanics, vascular cell physiology, and tissue biochemistry.
Responsibilities
Prepare and process clinical samples for storage in biobank
Perform basic and translational research experiments in the area of cardiovascular medicine, focusing on structural heart disease, myocardial dysfunction, and biomaterial interactions
Communicate with interdisciplinary teams, including researchers, clinicians, engineers, and biologists
Facilitate benchtop research and manage clinical information pertaining to research specimens.
Compile and present results in a brief and efficient approach.
Assist with the preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
Support other functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor?s degree or equivalent with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics in education, training and experience
Intermediate to advanced level MS Office skills.
Preferred Qualifications
1-2 years laboratory experience outside of course work preferred.
Familiarity and experience with the following laboratory techniques: processing clinical samples, histology, cell culture, immunoassays, biomechanics, imaging, and data analysis preferred.
Experience working with patient files, patient demographics and clinical information preferred.
