Job Responsibilities: Under the direction of a lead or supervisor, employees in this classification, The Process Control Instrumentation Technician&#39;s duties are characterized by work which is varied and contain a high degree of complexity. Communications and instructions occur in a variety of forms including oral requests, written requests, sketches, drawings, prints, manufacturer&#39;s published materials and electronic media Both individual and collaborative work is involved. Collaboration includes receiving technical guidance or direction from senior staff and productively working with others to resolve complex problems. Tasks involve work with all kinds of instrumentation and controls including hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, electronic and computer-based information systems. Core Duties*: Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, fabricate, and calibrate whole loops as well as various types and makes of industrial and commercial grade control equipment including sensing elements, transmitters, pneumatic and electronic controllers, recorders, transducers, control valves, data loggers and field terminal panels and control cabinets.  Develop work plans, identify and mitigate hazards, document work. Test, service and calibrate all types of industrial and commercial grade instruments from pressure gauges and sensors to microprocessor-based equipment, loops and controls.  Perform preventive maintenance, functional analysis, and repair of these devices, loops, research equipment, instruments, and process control systems  Modify existing instruments and control loops necessary to meet changing requirements.  Perform loop checks, scaling checks, control system HMI (Human Machine Interface) validation checks, and system start-ups in conjunction with other specialized technicians, engineers and managers.  Use a wide variety of tools and equipment, such as various hand tools, portable electrical and pneumatic tools, electronic test equipment, soldering and brazing equipment, pneumatic and hydraulic maintenance and test equipment, and software tools.  Respond to critical calls to correct problems in an expedited manner  Work under direction of the Process Control Instrumentation Specialist on installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing the more complex instrumentation systems including microprocessor-based systems, computers, multiplexers, communications networks, and software.  Respond to after-hours call backs for alarms, complaints and requests for assistance and correct problems.  Adhere to safety rules. *Other duties may also be assigned       Education &#38; Experience: Successful completion of a recognized high level industrial instrumentation technician school, apprenticeship program or by job experience or combination of relevant education and experience. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to read and interpret instruments, piping, electrical and electronic drawings and sketches.  Ability to install, maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic and electronic instruments and control loops.  Ability to calibrate pneumatic and electronic instruments.  Knowledge of industrial and commercial grade instruments, how they work, how they function in a loop.  Knowledge of safe work practices.  Ability to perform instrument tubing work and layout to specifications.  Ability to understand the fundamental control programming software/tools.  Ability to perform electronic work involving wiring, soldering and minor conduit work to specification. A new employee is normally placed on Step 1 of the grade. The position performs general greenskeeping duties and serves as a lead worker over assigned staff when directed.  Maintenance Specialist II level is distinguished from Maintenance Specialist I level by a greater degree of authority, responsibility and experience. 
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
 General Golf Course Maintenance 
 Performs daily golf course maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, raking, blowing, and debris removal. 
 Maintains greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, and landscaped areas to established standards. 
 Operates tools, light, and heavy maintenance equipment including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerators, sprayers, and other specialized machinery necessary to perform job duties. 
 Assists with course setup including cup cutting, tee placement, and bunker preparation. 
 Performs routine maintenance on tools, equipment, and facilities. 
 Purchases and maintains inventory of parts, supplies and equipment. Allocates expenses to proper accounts and exercises fiscal responsibility in regards to budget. 
 Works and operates equipment following safety procedures and uses safety equipment. 
 Performs operation of motor vehicles and/or power equipment with intermittent vibration. 
 Prepares and maintains written daily records including required documentation reflecting parts and labor needed to maintain irrigation system equipment. 
 Irrigation Management 
 Plan, schedule, perform, train, and assign irrigation system related work. 
 Inspect, repair, and maintain golf course irrigation systems including valves, heads, controllers, and pumps. 
 Supervise and assist in the install, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems by digging trenches, laying pipe, and connecting sprinkler heads and other related equipment in order to make water more efficient. 
 Monitor water usage and adjust irrigation schedules for turf health and water conservation. 
 Hand water dry areas as needed to supplement automatic irrigation system. 
 Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and control system issues. 
 Manage, operate and maintain central control irrigation database &#38; programming. 
 Pesticide and Fertilizer Application 
 Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers in accordance with label requirements and state regulations. 
 Maintain required application records and safety documentation. 
 Mix and load chemicals safely and accurately. 
 Monitor turf health and report pest, weed, and disease conditions. 
 Maintain required licensing for pesticide application. 
 Course Improvement Projects 
 Participate in construction and renovation projects including grading, drainage, sod installation, and bunker work. 
 Assist with landscaping, tree work, and turf renovation. 
 Operate specialized equipment related to construction and improvement work. 
 Coordinate project tasks with supervisory staff. 
 Lead Worker / Team Leader Responsibilities 
 Provide direction and guidance to assigned maintenance staff. 
 Lead small crews during daily assignments or weekend shifts. 
 Assist in training new employees on equipment and procedures. 
 Ensure work is completed safely and according to District standards. 
 Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, and equipment needs to supervisory staff. 
 May serve as acting lead in the absence of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. 
 General Responsibilities 
 Complies with Southgate Recreation &#38; Park District Occupational Injury &#38; Illness Prevention Program. Reports safety and sanitary hazards to the Golf Course Superintendent.

Selects, plants, prunes, and trims trees, ornamental plants, shrubs, and ground covers to accomplish landscaping objectives. Serves as a resource on landscape and horticultural matters; may plan, draw, and prepare land changes to conform to desired landscaping goals. Removes weeds; removes trash and debris from walkways, roadways, and other areas; mows, grooms, and replants lawn areas; fertilizes turf and various landscaped areas; maintains in-ground drains and culverts. Stakes, prunes, thins, and transplants turf, trees, ornamental plants, shrubs, ground covers, annuals, and bulbs; levels, cuts, fills, trenches, and excavates grounds with tractors and other rolling stock. Applies fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to areas; places postings where pesticides are being applied; disposes of product containers per instructions and applicable environmental regulations; applies biological/organic controls for pests and weeds; sets calibration on tank sprayers, drop spreaders, and wheel driven spreaders. Maintains athletic fields, areas, surfaces, and outdoor classrooms in a safe and usable condition; mows, grooms, contours, paints, and lines athletic and public use play fields to comply with required dimensions. Monitors and diagnoses weed, disease, and pest problems in athletic fields, taking appropriate measures to mitigate or eliminate problems; maintains current knowledge of safe pesticide/herbicide application. Interacts and coordinates with Physical Education and Athletics Division faculty members regarding classroom setup and maintenance in District athletic fields/areas; constructs, sets up, takes down, maintains, and repairs athletic activity courses, tracks, ranges, fields, and other equipment. Sets up signs, scoreboards, goals, clocks, benches, trash cans, public address systems, and bleachers for athletic or other events. Operates specialized and demanding machinery to dig, excavate, contour, and construct special land uses such as athletic fields and pedestrian parks. Operates combination front loader/back hoe, trenchers, dump trucks, and equivalent machinery; inspects machinery before use to ensure proper servicing and safe operating condition. Operates other demanding equipment such as jackhammers, compressors, and an array of common power tools. Operates snow removal equipment to remove snow on roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots as necessary. Installs, repairs, and replaces landscape irrigation systems following and interpreting blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions; designs and prepares plans for irrigation systems and makes necessary changes to blueprints for irrigation system design compliance and to locate shutoff valves, irrigation valves, and physical layouts. Installs, adjusts, maintains, and repairs electronic timers; installs, inspects, and performs major repairs to electronic and hydraulic valves and controllers; replaces and repairs a wide variety of sprinkler heads and lines by removing, disassembling, and replacing worn or broken parts. Drains, flushes, cleans, and repairs water storage reservoirs and irrigation boxes from water sources on a periodic basis; performs maintenance on fire hydrants; assists with the installation of new water lines. Performs scheduled operational checks, preventative maintenance, and routine servicing of grounds keeping equipment, including hand and power tools, mechanical devices, and engines and bodies of rolling stock. Inspects and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and performs minor to complex repairs to equipment including internal and external components on two and four-cycle gasoline and diesel engines. Repairs and rebuilds small engines, fuel and cooling systems, electrical components, running gears, and suspensions. Keeps District roadways and parking lots free of litter and debris; coordinates with appropriate staff regarding purchase of asphalt, paint, signs, sign poles, concrete and asphalt patch; stripes/paints parking lots, roadways, and curbs; installs, replaces, repairs, and/or relocates traffic control signs and posts, concrete bumpers, and roadway control exit barriers; keeps tree branches from obstructing view of traffic and signs; removes graffiti; coordinates with appropriate staff regarding cleanup of hazardous materials; sets up traffic cones and barricades. Coordinates with various organizational units and external groups for event support and logistics. Maintains adequate inventories of ground maintenance tools, parts, and equipment; maintains records of purchases; maintains work order records and various logs, including equipment logs, supply logs, and maintenance logs. Maintains current Material Safety Data Sheets for potentially hazardous materials. Trains and provides work direction to assigned student workers and temporary help as assigned including the proper use of specialized and heavy equipment. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications   Education and Experience Guidelines -  Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:   Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Experience:  Two years of experience in grounds maintenance. License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California driver&#39;s license. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Hazardous Materials Awareness Training Card. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Asbestos Awareness Training Certificate. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Program Certificate. Repair pumps and motors used in irrigation systems and gasoline engines used in lawn mowers and other power equipment, safely apply pesticides and herbicides. Skillfully and safely operate grounds maintenance power equipment and hand tools. Supervise student and/or other temporary help. Work independently and collaboratively. Monitors and diagnoses weed, disease, and pest problems in athletic fields, taking appropriate measures to mitigate or eliminate problems; maintains current knowledge of safe pesticide/herbicide application. Interacts and coordinates with Physical Education and Athletics Division faculty members regarding classroom setup and maintenance in District athletic fields/areas; constructs, sets up, takes down, maintains, and repairs athletic activity courses, tracks, ranges, fields, and other equipment. Sets up signs, scoreboards, goals, clocks, benches, trash cans, public address systems, and bleachers for athletic or other events. Operates specialized and demanding machinery to dig, excavate, contour, and construct special land uses such as athletic fields and pedestrian parks. Operates combination front loader/back hoe, trenchers, dump trucks, and equivalent machinery; inspects machinery before use to ensure proper servicing and safe operating condition. Operates other demanding equipment such as jackhammers, compressors, and an array of common power tools. Operates snow removal equipment to remove snow on roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots as necessary. Installs, repairs, and replaces landscape irrigation systems following and interpreting blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions; designs and prepares plans for irrigation systems and makes necessary changes to blueprints for irrigation system design compliance and to locate shutoff valves, irrigation valves, and physical layouts. Installs, adjusts, maintains, and repairs electronic timers; installs, inspects, and performs major repairs to electronic and hydraulic valves and controllers; replaces and repairs a wide variety of sprinkler heads and lines by removing, disassembling, and replacing worn or broken parts. Drains, flushes, cleans, and repairs water storage reservoirs and irrigation boxes from water sources on a periodic basis; performs maintenance on fire hydrants; assists with the installation of new water lines. Performs scheduled operational checks, preventative maintenance, and routine servicing of grounds keeping equipment, including hand and power tools, mechanical devices, and engines and bodies of rolling stock. Inspects and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and performs minor to complex repairs to equipment including internal and external components on two and four-cycle gasoline and diesel engines. Repairs and rebuilds small engines, fuel and cooling systems, electrical components, running gears, and suspensions. Keeps District roadways and parking lots free of litter and debris; coordinates with appropriate staff regarding purchase of asphalt, paint, signs, sign poles, concrete and asphalt patch; stripes/paints parking lots, roadways, and curbs; installs, replaces, repairs, and/or relocates traffic control signs and posts, concrete bumpers, and roadway control exit barriers; keeps tree branches from obstructing view of traffic and signs; removes graffiti; coordinates with appropriate staff regarding cleanup of hazardous materials; sets up traffic cones and barricades.
