Founded in 1899 by William R. Farrand and several close friends, Detroit Golf Club remains an exclusive private golf club to this day. Early in our existence, a six hole course turned into nine holes and later eighteen holes. By 1916, our two Donald Ross-designed courses were completed. The North Course is host to the Rocket Classic; a PGA Tour event hosted every summer since 2019. The North Course has USGA greens built in 1988. The putting surfaces on both courses are Bentgrass/Poa Annua mix. The South Course consists of 17 original Donald Ross push-up greens with XGD drainage. The North golf course will undergo a full course renovation including new USGA green construction, bunkers, tees, irrigation system, and drainage system starting in July 2025.
Detroit Golf Club is looking for highly motivated, team-oriented individuals with a goal of advancing in the industry. Our philosophy is to ensure 2nd Assistants are ready to progress into the next stages of their careers at Detroit Golf Club. Individuals will work closely with the Course Superintendent’s and Senior Assistant’s in developing their skill set in an array of management tasks necessary to provide the championship level conditions expected at DGC. Detroit Golf Club has a Raid Bird irrigation system with Cirrus central control.
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for but not limited to:
Keeping accurate inventory of all irrigation related parts and accessories
Managing an irrigation and drainage parts budget.
Keeping Pump Stations clean and organized
Keeping logs of all pump station, electric motor maintenance or service performed
Communicating Problems and solutions with management staff daily
Performing routine preventative maintenance on the irrigation system and pumps
Troubleshooting and repairing broken pipes, sprinklers, and valves
Blowout and winterize system at the end of the season
Raise and level sprinklers, valve boxes, and quick couplers
Hand water dry spots as golf course dictates
Locating all underground irrigation and drainage components for Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Working closely with scaffolding and tent contactors during Rocket Mortgage Classic build out.
Assisting Management and crew with daily course tasks that including mowing, spraying, watering, supervising, etc.
The position will provide opportunities to lead small crews, projects, and motivate staff to complete an assortment of jobs. Individuals will have the option for tournament volunteer experience to help diversify their professional network and skill sets.
Two or four year Turfgrass Management degree, certificate program, or related field preferred
1-2 years of experience in irrigation maintenance, installation, and repair.

Roughs consist of Bluegrass/Ryegrass/Tall Fescue mixes. Detroit Golf Club has partnered with golf course architect Tyler Rae to develop a complete master plan for DGC moving forward. The North golf course will undergo a full renovation in 2025 including renovation of Bunkers, Greens, Tees, Irrigation, Drainage, and Fairway Regrassing.
