The Mechanical Systems/ Pipefitter Technician Lead is a vital role within the University Housing Facilities team. This position will collaborate with the Housing Facilities leadership team and provide recommendations for repairs, maintenance, and new projects to ensure that our facilities are running efficiently and effectively.
As the Mechanical Systems/ Pipefitter Technician Lead you will:
Maintain, troubleshoot, diagnosis, repair, replace or install mechanical systems such as heating, cooling, ventilating, piping systems, fire protection systems, pressure vessels, boilers, temperature control systems, control valves, and specialized dining equipment.
Maintain, troubleshoot, diagnosis, repair, replace or install plumbing systems ie: Water heaters, water softeners, heat exchangers, supply, recirculating, drain, vent and sewer lines.
Maintain, troubleshoot, diagnosis, repair, replace or install steam generating distribution and utilization systems, including both high and low pressure sides of the systems
Maintain, troubleshoot, diagnosis, repair, replace and/or install Hardware/Appliances i.e.: electronic door locks, door operators, door/window repair, Refrigerators, Stoves, Washers, Dryers, etc.
Respond to emergencies and after-hours calls.
In addition, this position will:
Collaborate with the Housing Facilities team and University Operations and will serve as the lead with all higher level plumbing and pipefitting projects.
Provide input, planning, research, design, leadership and supervision (when needed) on special new construction and renovation projects
Read and interpret construction drawings and plans to determine equipment, materials and appropriate installation method.
Collaborate with outside vendors as needed.
Ensure compliance with all codes and regulatory guidelines and requirements.
Maintain cleanliness and neatness of work areas assigned; maintain records and reports.
Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Plus on-call as required by Manager. This position is considered essential.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Associate's or equivalent education/experience. Four years of general plumbing experience or equivalency. Journeyman level training in plumbing. Four years of experience in the commercial pipe fitting trade.
Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, and regulations.
Proficiency in interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve effectively.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates Degree in one or more of the listed trades preferred:
HVAC
Electrical
Plumbing
Refrigeration
Experience in the installation of Mechanical and/or HVAC systems. Experience in maintaining and repairing chiller, boilers, and HVAC split systems. Certified Pipe Welder.
