Wittenberg University is accepting applications for the position of HVAC Technician. This position is responsible for performing routine inspections, diagnostics, installation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of heating, ventilation, cooling and refrigeration systems and equipment located in or on campus owned properties and facilities. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, working approximately 40 hours per week. Full-time employees are eligible for benefits.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Inspects and maintains campus HVAC systems and equipment including but not limited to: boilers, steam systems, pumps, gas distribution systems, fans, electric and pneumatic control systems, valves and other related items.
Interprets and adheres to state and local HVAC codes and regulations.
Removes old HVAC equipment to prepare for installation of replacement systems.
Assembles, installs, modifies, repairs and tests HVAC equipment as necessary.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs and/or recommends repair solutions.
Runs pipe and duct systems as needed.
Reads and interprets wiring diagrams and understands technical data related to applicable systems and equipment.
Operates and maintains a variety of hand tools and power tools used related to tasks performed.
Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on campus equipment used.
Assists in general maintenance and facility responsibilities as needed.
Observes safe work methods and uses appropriate safety equipment; secures worksites from safety hazards as necessary; attends safety meetings and applicable training.
Receives and completes work orders and other requests for work.
Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials used in applicable record keeping systems used.
Participates as an active member of a team.
Represents the University with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff, students and visitors and maintains a professional image at all times.
Inspects assigned areas and corrects or reports safety hazards as appropriate.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc.
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED required; vocational education with trade certificate/diploma and completed apprenticeship training hours required.
3-5 years hands on residential and/or commercial HVAC experience required.
Prior experience using work order systems required.
Proficiency with hand and power tools specific to the HVAC trade; strong working familiarity with HVAC materials and their appropriate use; proficiency in math; capability of installing applicable systems; properly diagnose problems and develop solutions.
Competency and experience using Microsoft Office software preferred.
A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
Must be adaptable and flexible with the ability to respond to emergency calls for particular trade and to any other trade or related systems when needed. Ability to work evening and weekend hours when necessary for emergency or project work related to position.
Physical demands include: Strength and mobility to work indoors and outdoors, and in an office or shop maintenance setting, including operating hand and power tools; stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working in confined or awkward spaces; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or phone. Work is subject to exposure to frequent local travel, extreme weather conditions, and noise.
