Job Overview
The HVAC Shop Supervisor plans, schedules, and supervises the work of all assigned HVAC and maintenance mechanic trades personnel on the day shift. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Directs and coordinates facilities maintenance and repair operations for University buildings campus-wide.
Supervises HVAC and maintenance mechanic personnel on the day shift, and is responsible for maintenance repair, and commissioning of HVAC systems, including planning, installation, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various air-conditioning items such as fans, compressors, pneumatic & DDC controllers, variable air valves, hot and cold water loops, and ancillary air movement equipment.
Ensures that high priority demand work orders are addressed during the day shift.
Manages budget expenditures; assists with identifying deferred maintenance and planned component replacement; performs administrative duties; accountable for materials purchased; keeps informed of contracted work; complies with safety codes, Building Officials & Code Administrators (BOCA) standards, and local building codes; evaluates employees; assures University policies and union contract guidelines are followed; and coordinates with customers.
Work Interactions
Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Maintenance, the HVAC Shop Supervisor directs the HVAC maintenance and repair services for all designated buildings on and off campus approximately 6M square feet); serves as the principal contact for building users (customers) regarding HVAC systems; and coordinates all work with the Work Management Center (WMC), Central Shops, Contractors, Department of Public Safety (DPS), and Custodial operations.
They serve as the first point of contact on the day shift for University Facilities with customers; set the tone for how the department is perceived, and serve as a clearinghouse of information for customers, staff, and contractors.
They also serve as the Emergency Response Coordinator on the day shift for Facility Operations as assigned, and report the Department of Public Safety's command center during all emergencies.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency
Certification and/or Master's license in HVAC or an Associate of Arts degree/equivalent in facilities management
At least 10 years of HVAC work experience, including 5 years of supervising a team - including maintenance mechanics - in HVAC or any of the specialized trades - with varying levels of experience in a variety of jobs associated with facility maintenance
Working knowledge of Plumbing and Electrical
Competency with reading building blueprints and equipment plans
Competency with specific experience in Microsoft Office applications - for example, email, data management, spreadsheets, texting, and word processing
Competency with reading building blueprints and equipment plans
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong customer service orientation
Pay: $79,500.00 to $89,627.00 per year
