Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a full-time HVAC Technician at the Walla Walla campus.

General Responsibilities:
Under general direction this position performs skilled work in the inspection, testing, servicing, and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment (HVAC) systems, and related equipment at WWCC facilities. This position makes repairs to HVAC system components including chillers, boilers, valves, and other items and responds to calls on heating and cooling problems to evaluate problem and make appropriate repairs.
Essential Functions:
HVAC Equipment Operations
Tasks include:
Installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of air handlers, air flow dampers, V belts, sheaves, pulleys, and bearings; maintains and repairs commercial refrigeration equipment used in air conditioning, ventilation, and chilled water systems;
Make rounds of all equipment rooms and identify and repairing any potential problems and keep the systems and rooms clean. Set equipment trends to monitor energy consumption in Johnson Controls Metasys program.
Manage boilers and chiller to maintain system temperatures and equipment runtimes through the Metasys system;
Manage annual boiler inspections with WA Labor and Industries;
Inspects, maintains and repairs plumbing, heating, water, cooling, refrigeration, sewer and fire suppression systems;
Analyzes and maintains control systems that include electrical, electronic, and pneumatic sensors and actuators; lay out, fabricate, and install mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic temperature and humidity controls for heating and ventilation systems; repair relays, timers, meters, and switches with local or remote computer control; reads and interprets blueprints;
Monitors and adjusts heat and air conditioning in buildings using automated building monitoring and control systems;
Operates and maintains fluid and electronic testing and measuring instruments, such as manometers, air flow and liquid flow meters, volt meters, ammeters and potentiometers; keeps records of work performed and supplies used; use such tools as drill presses, grinders, bandsaws, hand drills, testers, welding equipment, soldering guns, small hand tools and specialized apparatus; estimates and orders materials and supplies needed to maintain equipment in good working condition.
Administrative Responsibilities
Tasks include:
Email management, parts research, computer-based troubleshooting, document retention.
Assist with construction/remodel plan review of upcoming projects of the HVAC systems.
Complete and close out Work Orders in the CMMS and enter time worked and materials used.
Safety
Tasks include:
Contribute to a safe working environment for self, co-workers and the public. Adheres to all Federal, State, Local, and Department safety guidelines, including any concerning chemical applications and disposal. Reports unsafe conditions or accidents to supervisor. Attends and participates in safety trainings.
Snow Removal
Tasks include:
Conduct snow removal and ice abatement to reduce campus liability. This position will operate snow clearing equipment to clear snow from sidewalks, streets, parking lots, steps, ADA ramps, and entry ways in a timely manner. This position is expected to respond to perform snow removal as required based on university needs and activities.
Other
Additional miscellaneous duties as needed to support department and campus operations or special events.

Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of HVAC codes.
Experience with Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric (TAC) and DDC control systems.
Knowledge of electrical codes.
Knowledge of building codes.
Ability to communicate in English.
Desired Qualifications:
Completion of recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter.
Ability to perform HVAC and control repairs specific to the WWCC.
Current Refrigerant EPA Certification Card (Universal Preferred).
Ability to perform minor plumbing repairs.
Experience working for a government or higher education institution.
Completion of a four-year approved institution course as a Control/HVAC Technician Trainee; OR five years of applicable experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical and pneumatic control systems. Vocational or trade school training in control or HVAC mechanisms may be substituted, year-for-year, for work experience up to a maximum of two years.
Equivalent education/experience may substitute at the discretion of the college.
Conditions/Terms of Employment
This is a 40 hour per week position. Mon-Fri 7:00 pm- 3:30 pm. WWCC maintenance staff work a variety of shifts around the clock and must be able to work any days and shift. Occasional overtime and callbacks may be required. Quarterly travel to Clarkston campus (and as needed based on equipment outages) and occasional travel for training or institutional purposes. Direct contact with the public, students, and other institutional staff.
This position has a typical working environment that will consist of both indoor and outdoor activities, often in inclement weather. Risks include operating tools and machinery, rotating equipment, chemical hazards, and other tools of the trade. Routine assignments also include working at heights and from ladders, and lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds with or without the use of hand truck or cart. Must be able to stand and/or walk 8 hours per day. Working with or around machinery and equipment with moving parts. Safety practices are consistent with WISHA.
This classified position is in a bargaining unit for which WPEA Higher Ed is the exclusive representative.
The college has an excellent benefit program including medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; and retirement plan. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP) unless declined at time of hire. WWCC requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary. The college is tobacco free.
