Multi-Trade Technician III

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, working as a member of a crew which is part of the Buildings and Properties Unit tasked with maintenance of the physical plant at Cornell AgriTech, perform a full range of journey-level building control system work including installation, maintenance, and repair of direct digital control (DDC) systems, building controls, and associated field devices. Read and interpret shop/field drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and other project documents. Support the Unit mission in a fluid multi-trade environment by working cooperatively with unit and research staff and faculty on a wide variety of tasks.
Install, maintain, operate, troubleshoot and repair energy management and control systems consisting of DDC panels, local area networks, network servers and pneumatic control devices for the Geneva Experiment Station. Maintain, operate and repair network host computers, including the creation and modification of graphical interfaces, software logic, alarms and trends. Maintain database backups of all DDC panels, graphical user interfaces and servers. Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of a variety of heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC), and specialty systems. Troubleshoot alarms and complaints relating to building HVAC and control systems. Perform installation, maintenance and repair of valves, dampers, actuators, temperature sensors, transformers, relays, motor controls and associated components. Assist other shops in the unit, including but not limited to, the plumbing and electric shops with a variety of tasks as needed. Provide relief to Utility Plant Operators periodically as required. This relief may include working a non-standard work schedule such as evenings or nights. Must be available to respond to emergency call ins, on a 24/7 basis, as the need arises. Learn and follow safety and work environment regulations, policies and procedures (ARC flash prevention and protection, lead, asbestos, fall protection, confined space, and others as required).
Required Qualifications:

Associates degree in an appropriate discipline and more than 3 years commercial work experience. Have strong knowledge of computers, HVAC, controls and ability to read shop and field drawings. Must have valid driver license. Must be able to wear safety equipment such as a respirator for chemical safety. Must be able to inspect crawl spaces, attics, laboratories, ventilation equipment, mechanical rooms, mechanical shafts, sub basements and confined, isolated areas. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to multitask. Demonstrated ability to give and receive feedback, communicate, listen, respect others, set priorities and achieve them, and use time effectively. Must be highly motivated and exhibit innovation, good judgment and reliability in the work place. Work with other staff as a member of a team to resolve issues and achieve common goals. Provide and promote service to internal and external customers. Demonstrate ability to express thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing. Demonstrate effective listening skills. Show initiative, anticipate needs, and take action. Adapt to changing priorities, situations and demands. Must exhibit a high degree of attention to detail and possess good organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree in HVAC, electronics/electrical systems. Experience as a control technician, HVAC technician or electrician in a facilities organization. Training and/or experience with mechanical and HVAC systems. Training and knowledge of the National Electric Code. Training and experience trouble shooting and maintaining energy management and control systems.
