Job Summary: | The Center for Dairy Research (CDR) recently opened its state-of-the-art research and pilot plant facility. The CDR is searching for a technician that would help maintain and repair the building systems needed for operation of the CDR research facility such as potable water, compressed air, HVAC, chilled water, steam (potable and technical), plumbing, and electrical. Enters work orders for these systems that need campus physical plant assistance or contacts outside vendors when appropriate for specialized dairy processing equipment. Responsible for repair and preventative maintenance on dairy processing equipment including sanitary valves and pumps, as well as calibration of process instrumentation. Assists and troubleshoots issues with the automation and controls for various dairy processing systems. Assists with general maintenance of the facility. |
Responsibilities: | Inspects, maintains, and repairs basic equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, and operational maintenance as needed. - 40% Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain standard machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
- 20% Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
- 10% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
- 10% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
- 20% Repairs, calibrates and maintains inspected, sanitary, dairy processing equipment used for research purposes including pumps, valves, instrumentation, automation and controls.

Qualifications: | Required:
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience - Experience with working with utilities (e.g. water, power, steam, air, etc) and good mechanical skills. - In-depth knowledge of maintenance of facilities, relevant building and safety codes. - Experience with equipment like sanitary pumps and valves.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a dairy or food processing plant. - Experience with modern automation and controls. - Experience with following SSOP (sanitary standard operating procedures) and plant GMPs (good manufacturing practices). - Apprenticeship in relevant area |
Work Schedule: | Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 8am to 4:30pm, but are subject to change. Exact work schedule will be determined upon hire and discussion with supervisor. |
