ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs installation, maintenance and repair for all University heating, air conditioning, and refrigerating systems to include the following:
Preventive Maintenance items such as replacing: belts, filters, bearings.
Preventive Maintenance items such as: clean coils, clean drain pans, and grease bearings.
Testing electrical circuits or components for continuity, using electrical test equipment.
Testing pipe or tubing joints or connections for leaks.
Installs/repairs control valves, motors, actuators, and associated air handler equipment.
Troubleshoots and dismantles malfunctioning system components using electrical, mechanical and pneumatic testing equipment.
Repairs and replaces defective equipment, components or wiring.
Installs, connects and adjusts thermostats, humidistats and timers.
Inspects and tests systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions.
Adjusts valves according to specifications.
Braze or solder parts to repair defective joints and leaks.
Perform mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming.
Maintains campus air handling equipment, chillers and ice machines.
Assists activities in different shop areas and with external contractors as directed.
Responsible for proper care and upkeep of all equipment used in the course of completing assigned tasks including tools, machinery, and vehicles.
Participates in the emergency call-in rotation as assigned.
Available for overtime and mandatory events as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Mechanical & operational knowledge of all machines & tools related to HVAC equipment.
Installation skills for installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
Troubleshooting skills to determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Skill to repair machines or systems using the needed tools.
Skill to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Ability to demonstrate active listening skills to build trust and establish rapport with employees and customers.
Should be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to monitor and assess performance of yourself and make improvements or take corrective action.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to manage one's own time both efficiently and productively.
Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor, which includes heavy lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs., as well as standing, walking, reaching, carrying, stooping and kneeling.

Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalency
Current KY Apprentice HVAC license / HVAC Installers License or Successful completion of at least 1 year of a 1 or 2 year program of instruction for refrigeration and air conditioning at an accredited vocational/technical school.
Completion of annual CEU requirements.
Good organizational, communication and interpersonal skills required.
Basic computer skills to access/send emails and perform data entry into the maintenance work order system.
Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver's license.

Salary Grade: 106 Salary Range: $13.27 - $20.00
