Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in the operation, maintenance, and servicing of boilers and performing other repair work as required. Some of the job duties include:
Reads and monitors gauges to see that boilers are functioning properly at the required level or range.
Operates valves and adjusts regulators to control the flow of steam or water.
Operates valves to blow sludge and scale from the pressure system.
Performs service work both inside and outside of boilers.
Performs plumbing and repair of air, water, and steam lines.
Performs daily chemical testing on city and boiler water.
Maintains chemical balance on both city water and boiler feed water so as not to damage boiler or steam lines.
Monitors steam flow and opacity charts to stay within state and EPA guidelines.
Operates various types of equipment such as a welder, acetylene torch, backup generator, steam turbine, etc.
Troubleshoots equipment, repairing or replacing.
Paints boilers, equipment control panels, catwalks, etc.
Maintains and cleans the heating plant inside and outside.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must be able to work any shift or schedule. Overtime will be required as needed. Facilities employees may be required to report at their regularly scheduled times during emergency closures or during inclement weather to perform essential functions including snow removal duties.
