Function/Duties of Position
This position responsible for completing complex repair, specialized testing, and maintenance tasks associated with fire suppression systems (including but not limited to: wet systems, dry systems, preaction systems, hydrants, fire pumps, standpipes, hose connections, as well as all associated valves, piping, and components) troubleshooting equipment and/or system failures, coordinating the work of other technicians and vendors when necessary, and interfacing with customers. This position is expected to be the OHSU subject matter expert for all fire suppression systems.
High School or GED equivalent
Seven years of facilities maintenance or trades related experience, with 5 years' experience altering, testing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining fire suppression systems
Two completed years of building maintenance experience can substitute for two of the seven years of experience required above; OR
Successful completion of a Facilities Maintenance technical training program may substitute for one of the seven years of experience required above
Computer skills: beginning - intermediate
Some knowledge of refrigerated systems preferred
Detailed knowledge of practices, methods, materials, tools, rules, and regulations of the fire sprinkler fitter trade
Ability to maintain detailed documentation regarding all fire suppression system testing and repairs utilizing an approved OHSU system / method
Ability to research, understand, and ensure compliance with all codes and regulations including federal, state, and local as well as industry standards
Ability to review, edit, and write procedural task lists, job aids, and training materials
Sprinkler fitter journeyman's card attesting to the successful completion of a sprinkler fitter apprenticeship program
Valid Oregon or Washington driver's license with an acceptable driving record that meets OHSU standards
Within six months of hire, obtain Certificate of Fitness issued by Portland Fire & Rescue for "Privately owned underground fire mains or hydrant systems installation, alteration, testing, service or repair"
Within six months of hire, obtain Certificate of Fitness issued by Portland Fire & Rescue for "Automatic sprinkler system installation, alteration, testing, service or repair"
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Experience working in a hospital environment
Training to operate laser alignment tool for pumps
Familiarity working with FM-200 or other clean agent suppression systems
Familiarity working with fixed kitchen hood suppression systems
Familiarity with heliport foam suppression systems
Certificate of Fitness issued by Portland Fire & Rescue for "Inspection, testing, and maintenance of water - based fire protection systems"
Certificate of Fitness issued by Portland Fire & Rescue for "Fixed fire extinguishing systems installations, alteration, testing, service or repair"
Certificate of Fitness issued by Portland Fire & Rescue for "Commercial cooking hood and duct system cleaning"
NICET Level II or higher for Water-Based Systems
