Position Summary
Position requires the individual to monitor building automation and fire alarm equipment. Respond to all alarms or customer requests accordingly. May provide emergency response for issues occurring during the shift and repair items with capability to all phases of mechanical systems such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc. Repairs requiring a more highly skilled crafts person should be reported to immediate supervisor.
Job Description
This position will work swing shift hours.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitors campus building automation systems and fire alarm systems with computer workstations and software. Responds to HVAC and Fire Alarm events, performs equipment shutdowns. Changes temperature, humidity, and air flow setpoints as needed.
- Performs monthly Elevator Recall Test
- Performs monthly Fire Sprinkler Valve Inspections.
- Performs daily Hot Work Permit process of enabling and disabling fire devices.
- Documentation of all incidents during a work schedule. Fire alarms, equipment failures starting/shutting down of equipment, etc.
- Documents work requests into automated work order system.                   Â
- Mechanical Systems: Manually resets alarms; freeze stats, pressure switches, motor overloads, refrigeration, fire alarms, etc.       Â
- Plumbing Systems: Repairs faucet leaks, replaces aerators and vacuum breakers. Repairs, replaces and services toilet and urinal flushometers. Clears minor sink drain clogs. Clears blocked toilets and urinals; capable of properly using a closet auger.Â
- Be available to work overtime when asked.
- Electrical Systems: Replaces lamps, ballasts, checks and/or replaces fuses and breakers.      Â
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certificate or degree is preferred.
- Must have a Valid Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D driverâ™s license.
- EPA approved universal certification for handling CFC/HCFC Refrigerants per EPA 40 CFR.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of people.
- Two to four years of related experience in skilled trade functions, along with demonstrated ability to perform varied maintenance tasks.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve a variety of maintenance problems involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other conditions.
- Ability to resolve maintenance problems in a timely manner in order to avoid or minimize disruptions and delays in the work environments of faculty, staff, customers or the public.
- Ability to lift and carry tools and material weighing in excess of 50 pounds and be able to raise and carry with assistance of items weighing 200 pounds.
- Minimal knowledge of Johnson Controls and Schneider Electric building automation systems.
- Experience with commercial HVAC systems (AHUâ™s, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Exhaust Systems and Climate Rooms).
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring and equipment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Self-starter.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification required.
- Minimum of two years experience in carpentry, plumbing and/or energy management required.

Salary Range
$19.56 - $30.35 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
