Job description
Sheet Metal welder / Fabricator
Job Duties:
You will be welding thin gauge metals primarily 18 – 26 gauge galvanized steel with some Aluminum. In a sheet metal production shop to produce ancillary components for the HVAC industry.
Reviews layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders in preparation for welding or cutting metal components.
Positions workpieces and clamps together or assembles in jigs or fixtures.
Ignites torch or starts power supply and strikes arc.
Able to weld various types of thin gauge metals from 26ga – 18ga galvanized steel, and some Aluminum
Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scraper or power chipper, portable grinder, or arc-cutting equipment
Selects and inserts electrode or gas nozzle into the holder and connects hoses and cables to obtain gas or specified amperage, voltage, or polarity.
Connects and turns regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure to obtain the desired flame.
Selects and installs torch, torch tip, filler rod, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal.
Guides electrodes or torch along weld line at a specified speed and angle to weld, melt, cut, or trim metal.
Welds metal parts or components together, using brazing, gas, or arc welding equipment.
Repairs broken or cracked parts fill holes and increase the size of metal parts, using welding equipment.
Welds in a flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead position.
Cleans or degreases parts, using a wire brush, portable grinder
Inspects finished workpiece for conformance to specifications.
Job Knowledge:
High school diploma and or GED required. 1 to 3 months related experience and or training desired.
Required certifications include:
Welding certification, Hot works Certified
Ability to operate forklift equipment
