Under the supervision of the Auxiliary Maintenance Foreman, the Dining Maintenance Mechanic performs journeyman level work in several trades including installing, replacing, repairing and/or performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on university HVAC, electric, plumbing equipment at University dining facilities throughout campus.  

The ideal candidate can follow oral and written directions, demonstrate effective communication skills required to utilize an electronic work order system and can recognize problems and determine proper repair solutions and corrective courses of action. Preference will be given to strong mechanical trade experience and understanding of food service operations. A Universal Refrigeration License is also a plus. 

• Inspecting, installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems, fittings, and plumbing fixtures.  

• Connecting and disconnecting equipment to gas lines. 

• Opening clogged drains with plumber's snake or vacuum plunger.  

• Troubleshooting commercial kitchen equipment to minimize downtime of operation. 

• Repairing or replacing damaged plumbing fixtures such as sinks, faucets, flushometers, toilets, showers and/or connect them to outlet and inlet pipes by fitting gaskets, couplings, traps and valves. 

• Inspecting and replacing faulty switches, sockets, ballasts, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems and appliances.  

• Reading thermometers/gauges, and records readings to track equipment efficiency.  

• Lubricating compressors, motors and other parts and repairing or replacing parts as necessary  

• Assisting in disassembling, repairing, and replacing condensers, thermostats, diffusers, humidistats, pumps, compressors, belts, pulleys, and related equipment.    

• Reading thermometers/gauges and recording readings.  

• Lubricating compressors, motors and other moving parts.  

• Replacing air filters on a scheduled basis,  

• Cleaning discharge and return grills.  

• Performing minor bathroom and kitchen repairs to cabinets, fixtures, countertops, and partitions. 

• Igniting pilots on stoves, fryers, and grills 

• Repairing various types of flooring  

• Completing minor finish work associated with equipment repairs and food safety regulations. 

• Estimating materials needed and recording time and material expended each work order. 

• Other related duties as assigned.
