Job Description
The Systems Design Engineer will be part of Rockwell Automation's Global Solutions Business, focused on providing automation and process solutions for their assigned industry. You will be responsible for all aspects of designing, building, and testing UL 508a Listed Industrial Control Panels. Daily activities include generation of electrical schematics, Bills-of-Material, and configuration files for VFDs, HMIs, and PLCs. The Engineer must integrate power distribution, automation components, transformers, and branch circuit protection with motors, valves, filters, and sensors into a high-quality packaged system.
The Engineer will also participate in new solution development, cost reduction, quality improvement, process documentation, and other initiatives. This position requires creativity, experience, and the ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts. You will be responsible for executing assigned engineering tasks related to the overall system design, implementation, test and customer-site startup as part of the project engineering team.
Working in concert with the Project Manager, you will establish objectives, work plans, and execution development tasks for a particular solution and work on project assignments. You will ensure coordination with various product or solutions groups to ensure compatibility and optimal integration with established products.
This role reports to the Engineering Team Lead and is located at our Twinsburg location near Cleveland, OH. The Systems Design Engineer can sit on site at either the Twinsburg, OH location or Mequon, WI location. This individual will need to be onsite full-time for the first two months of the role for training purposes, but can then work 50% onsite and 50% remote per Rockwell's flexibility model. If located in the Greater Milwaukee area, this person would need to train in Mequon, WI for the first two months, but could thereafter sit in the downtown Milwaukee Headquarters.
What You Will Do
* Generate electrical schematics, panel layout drawings and CNC instructions, Bills-of-Material, and assembly/use instructions for a variety of equipment.
* Participate in technical execution of projects with a combined value of up to $500k with multiple projects simultaneously
* Responsible for meeting project schedule, engineering hour budgets, and customer satisfaction targets for own activities in support of the project team
* Review project hardware/software for compliance with applicable codes/standards and assure personnel/machinery safety practices are fully implemented
* Coordinate customer requirements with engineering and other appropriate departments to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction is achieved
* Analyze customer's requirements to determine the optimal control system solution and determines applicable industrial control configuration/architecture
* Provides updates to project manager/leader pertaining to status of activities, performance to schedule and performance to budget
* Visit internal/external panel manufacturing facilities to assess progress, provide technical assistance, final inspection and sign off
* Participate in and lead standardization, cost savings, and manufacturing process improvement initiatives
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future.
- Must be able to travel up to 10%
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline or equivalent
* Team player with the ability to integrate with other project team members
* Be a contributing part of a project team but also responsible to lead and re view all assigned engineering team and their assigned tasks for a project
* Minimum of two years related experience in electrical design, including schematics and panel layout; programming drives, PLC's and HMI's
* Minimum of two years related experience in control systems engineering which relates to variable speed drives and industrial automation systems
* Experience of control system applications throughout the project lifecycle from initial design concepts through installation and subsequent client support
* Knowledge of Allen-Bradley Powerflex drives, and PLC's. Knowledge of codes and standards applicable to industrial control systems including the NEC, NFPA79, UL508A, and UL698.
* Ability to design utilizing ACAD electrical and CREO
