The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the programming, maintenance and operation of the golf course irrigation system(s). The Irrigation Technician is required to report any irregularities in course turf quality to the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.

Job Functions:

  • Water greens, tees and fairways.
  • Operate irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water.
  • Repair the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed.
  • Complete requests for irrigation and course parts and supplies.
  • Grade and prepare soil base; lay sod; and seed greens, tees and fairways.
  • Operate dump trucks and other light equipment in hauling materials and removing debris.
  • Occasionally supervises a small labor force for special projects, and performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
  • On-call shifts required.
  • Flexible schedule including holidays and weekends.

  • One year work related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation systems, including automatic valves and controllers, and various types of pumps and pumping systems.
  • Understanding of agronomy, turf grass science and the rules of golf.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area maintenance work.
  • Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and inspect work sites. Incumbents must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment. Ability to walk for the duration of the shift. Must be able to climb ladders and work on varied terrain. Will be required to dig/shovel for extended periods of time and work in inclement weather conditions
